I’m excited to be doing a book signing at one of my favorite ice cream shops, Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream. I personally take my own children to one of the six locations near me, all the time. Mimi’s is known for their unique and imaginative flavors and high quality, natural ingredients. The cherry on top for this wonderful event is that there will be complimentary ice cream. It can’t get much “sweeter” than that!

I had the most wonderful time doing four author and illustrator visits at schools in Florida and attending the Ameilia Island Book Festival this past weekend. “Beeing” in my happy place and hanging out with some of my favorite authors and meeting new ones was the ice on top. A huge thank you to the Amelia Island Book Festival for making this happen.

January 11, 2024
Yesterday, I did an author/illustrator visit at an elementary school for 200 or so adorable, intelligent, and inquisitive children. I gave ventriloquism a go. Hearing those kids roar with laughter to my punchlines was music to my ears! It was invigorating. I was on cloud nine for the rest of the day. I was in my happy place, entertaining kids and spreading the love of literacy.

My heart is overflowing with happiness and gratitude because of my family this weekend! Last weekend a forecasted hurricane led to the postponement of a big two day book event of mine. This threw a bit of a wrench in my plans, as the new event date conflicted with a library event I was already committed to this weekend. How could I possibly be in two places at once? That’s when my family came stepped up and came to the rescue by helping out at a level I never expected! My husband and daughter manned my booth for the larger event, while I attended the “meet the authors” library event. Mind you, children’s books are not entirely my husband’s thing. But he and my daughter killed it!! I’m so grateful and proud of them!!
My brother, mother, and SIL also stepped up and helped watch my youngest daughter last minute, all while hosting a birthday party for my niece, and then taking my daughter to her big school event. Thank you!! I’m really feeling the love!
Plus I got to meet so many wonderful authors, one of which is a New York Times Best Selling Author, David Baldacci at the library event.
So day one of two events is in the books! Now let’s bring on day two!!

My oldest daughter and I had a fabulous time at the Park View Spring Festival event selling our books, this past weekend! The highlight of this event was watching Aspen sign and sell her very own book! It took a minute for her to warm up to the process, but now she’s eager to do her next one! From creating the book, to pitching it, to engaging with others, and money management, I’d say it was an all around successful lesson in entrepreneurialism!

Today is LAUNCH DAY for my eight-year-old daughter’s first book!
Ever since Aspen was 6 years old, she has enjoyed writing and illustrating stories. Likely a case of monkey, see monkey do. I already have an entire collection of her hand-written books.
As of recently, she’s been my little helper at several book events, which has awoken her entrepreneurial spirit. One day she asked me if she could sell one of her own books, to which I responded, “Of course, but it will take a lot of work.” She nodded and said she was up for the challenge.
She started out excited because she likes writing and drawing. After many car rides and conversations of spitballing storyline ideas, she settled upon an idea. She then wrote it all out on paper at school and drew some character sketches. Revisiting and revising it in the weeks following. Then I put her through an editing process where I would suggest areas that needed condensing and re writing. There were sections she was encouraged to add more to the story and there were parts she eliminated altogether. All of this was followed by spelling and grammar lessons. Much of this process was frustrating for her, but she kept pushing through.
When she finally got to the illustrations, she was really excited about illustrating her book.
She started out illustrating on paper, which is what she’s used to and loves doing. I suggested she try to do her illustrations digitally, which was a whole new learning curve, again accompanied with a lot of frustration. She kept comparing herself to me and kept getting frustrated when the images would not turn out the way she envisioned. She’d say it wasn’t fair that she couldn’t draw as well as me, while I reminded her I had 5x the amount of time to practice than she has. I kept reminding her to only do it if it brought her joy. She kept saying it did. I gave her plenty of opportunities to stop, but she kept saying she wanted to keep pushing through. By the time she only had three or so illustrations remaining, she was at her wits end and ready to throw in the towel. I had to give her a little extra nudge at this point because she had come so far already…MONTHS in. I couldn’t let her quit when she was so close to the finish line.
Needless to say, I am beyond proud of her for following through, even when she felt like quitting. And now Aspen has officially published her first book, which is now available on Amazon. I know deep down inside she feels proud too, but also feels very vulnerable and insecure about it. I don’t blame her though, as I feel the same way each time I publish a new book!
Here’s to my little author and illustrator’s first step towards entrepreneurialism.

I had a fab time at the Readers’ Favorite Awards Ceremony in Miami, FL this past weekend. Not only did I have the honor of accepting awards and recognition for a few of my books (Barnabee Believes (in Himself), Cardboard Rosie and Escape to Fairy Kingdom) but I finally got to meet some dear author friends in person which led to getting to know them better too. I had a blast mingling with truly talented, hilarious and like-minded people. Plus, I got to spend quality with my brother, which I haven’t done in years, maybe decades. There were several friends that were missed, but were there in spirit. I’d love to make this an annual tradition. Now the pressure is on to keep writing and illustrating award winning books. Until next time, Miami/Readers’ Favorite.
November 1-30, 2022
Hi everyone! I am excited to share some news with you...
I have teamed up with almost 30 other indie children's book authors in an effort to start our own School Book Catalog that will be distributed to various schools (grades K-8th) in the country, starting in California. We have BIG dreams and plans to branch out all over the country eventually. One day, Bookmark Kids will not only be a school catalog, but a known brand on YouTube and beyond that represents children's literacy, fun, and engagement.
We are starting this business from the ground up and need to raise money for various initial costs involved like catalog development, printing, and distribution. We simply think it's time to bring new titles into the schools that are more representative of the world in which our kids are growing up. By supporting this fundraiser, you are supporting almost 30 small businesses, and each of us appreciates that so much!
You will see that we have various “tiers" that can be purchased on our website, where you can help turn this dream into a reality! If you are interested in joining us, please let me know. We are currently figuring out our process for how to vet and bring new authors onto the team.
We look forward to having a close relationship with schools and harvesting a love of reading in the kids there! Our promise to you is that we are offering wonderful hand picked books for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade to enjoy!
We will also be donating A LOT of books to kids via numerous charitable organizations this holiday season so that we can give back to our community as we build our brand.
Our fundraiser is running from Nov 1-30. Can you help us make this happen?
November 8th & 9th, 2022
November is all about kindness. Though it is important to teach little ones to be kind each and every day of the year, this is an important day to acknowledge! After all, we never truly know what someone is going through and how one little act of kindness might make a large impact on that person’s day, perhaps even their life! In honor of World Kindness day, I have teamed up with a number of truly talented and extremely kind authors to do a Kindness e-book promo! For the next two days you can download these 19 fabulous e-books for free! So would you be ever so kind and download them now? After all, you can never have too many books, right?!!

I’m excited to have received my first physical medal for an achievement in writing for my book Barnabee Believes (in Himself)!
Thank you Readers’ Favorites!
Will Barnabee ever learn to BEE-lieve . . . in himself?
Barnabee loves to spell and dreams of being a spelling bee champ. Everyone believes he has what it takes to win, except Barnabee. When he experiences anxiety from speaking in front of his classmates, his imagination runs wild. Will the calming techniques he tries help him overcome his fears? Told through lively illustrations and humor, this story explores themes such as courage, self-doubt, self-belief, determination, and friendship!
Barnabee Believes (in Himself) encourages young readers to follow their dreams and to not let anyone (even themselves) or anything hold them back! It is a reminder to dream big, ignore the naysayers, and not to give up!
